The Statue of Liberty is the most iconic landmark in New York harbor. It has presided over the harbor since its dedication in 1886. While the national monument can only be reached by water ferry, getting to the ferry’s launch site is best done by New York City charter bus. A rental bus is an easy way for your group to travel together as you begin your visit to the Statue of Liberty.
The ferries that transport visitors to the Statue of Liberty depart from both New York and New Jersey. Statue Cruises is the preferred provider of ferry service to the Statue of Liberty. But you’ll need to get your group to their departure points on time so that everyone can enjoy a great sightseeing tour. Depending on your group size, you can rent a school bus, coach bus, or minibus to get your group there safely. If you plan to visit the Statue of Liberty and then check out several other destinations in the city, chartering a private shuttle service is a great way to take the hassle out of your group’s transportation logistics.

Statue of Liberty National Monument New York, NY 10004, United States
The Statue of Liberty’s history goes back several years before it was officially dedicated by President Grover Cleveland on October 28, 1886. Inklings of the idea for the statue can be found as far back as 1865. The American Civil War was drawing to a close and French historian Edouard de Laboulaye first floated the notion that France should create a statue to celebrate America’s success in building its democracy. While designs were fussed over for years, the actual work on the statue didn’t begin until 1875. The statue was designed by sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, who is rumored to have designed the statue’s face off the face of his mother. While most of the work on the statue was being done in France, intense fundraising efforts were underway in the United States. American architect Richard Morris Hunt designed the statue’s pedestal and the location on Bedloe’s Island was chosen. Once the statue was completed in 1885, it had to be disassembled, packed in more than 200 crates, and shipped from France to New York. Once it arrived, it took four months for workers to reconstruct and mount the 305-foot tall statue on its pedestal.
