The San Francisco Art Institute offers many galleries and exhibits to explore. They’re also acclaimed for their informative lecture series that serve a diverse community of artists and scholars. To explore the institute or attend a lecture series, the best way for a group visit is to rent a San Francisco charter bus.
The San Francisco Art Institute’s location is convenient to other popular San Francisco attractions, including Fishermen’s Wharf and Pier 39. But the parking lot at the institute is very small and tough to navigate. If a stop by the institute is just one part of a larger day of sightseeing throughout the city, the best way to get around is by hiring a San Francisco charter bus. Class trips can utilize a school bus rental while private groups will enjoy the amenities of a coach bus or minibus. For more customized service, you might also consider hiring a door-to-door shuttle service to help your group get around the city with ease.

The San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) was founded in 1871. This makes it one of the nation’s oldest higher education schools dedicated to contemporary art. Since its inception, SFAI has been front and center in the city’s vibrant art scene. It has continuously encouraged students to push the boundaries of “contemporary art” and, as a result, the institute has gained a reputation for risk-taking, experimentation, and innovation in the art field. SFAI was actually first known as the San Francisco Art Association. It was renamed the San Francisco Institute of Art in 1907 and finally became the San Francisco Art Institute in 1961. One of the institute’s most famous exhibitions is the Diego Rivera Gallery, in which sits The Making of a Fresco Showing The Building of a City. This mural was commissioned by SFAI President William Gerstle and completed by Rivera on May 31st, 1931. In 2017, then-president Barack Obama selected an SFAI alum, Kehinde Wiley, to paint his official portrait for the National Portrait Gallery. Today, SFAI’s Graduate Lecture Series is a great resource for current students, alumni, and even the general public. It gives guests opportunities to meet and interact with international thought leaders on a variety of local, regional, and global issues. The SFAI Faculty Interviews podcast is also a great resource for continuing education.
